Almost genius and sel reflections
The almost genius project is slowly evolving. Students are warming up to their projects. There are many great ideas from feeding and giving shelter to the poor to teaching handicapped students to play sports to making everyone aware of physical and emotional abuse. The only problems that I see is some students are not participating. I have tried the carrot and the stick, but not much has happened. Maybe once they see the others presentations they may buy into the idea. Another problem that I see is students not staying on task when given the time to work on their projects. I will try to do more checking and motivating to keep them on track.
The social emotional learning is going like hot cakes! Kids are really listening and getting into the topics that we have covered. We have discussed empathy, motivation, always doing your best, emotional intelligence, pain, mindfulness, the four agreements and being remembered in a positive way. Students are writing about how they are applying the social emotional learning to their lives on a daily basis.
